The New River Valley provides multiple scenic attractions:
No summer would be complete without a two-mile hike to the 66-foot Cascades Falls, located in the heart of Giles County. Two trails lead to the falls, with the lower trail designated as a "National Recreation Trail" because of its scenic setting.
Claytor Lake State Park offers a wide variety of activities for water and land enthusiasts with its 472-acre park and lake spanning 21 miles. Easily accessible from Interstate 81, the park offers swimming, camping, cabins, lodges, a meeting facility, nature and history programs, miles of hiking trails, and a visitor center.
The Historic Mountain Lake Conservancy & Hotel is regarded as Southwestern Virginia's most comfortable adventure family getaway location. This pristine 2,600 acre Virginia mountaintop property served as the resort backdrop to the 1987 movie "Dirty Dancing," a distinction it holds in very high honor.
New River Trail
New River Trail State Park has been designated an official National Recreation Trail by the U. S. Department of the Interior. The park parallels 39 miles of the New River.
Virginia State Parks
Thirty-five parks located across the Commonwealth comprise the Virginia State Parks system. These parks feature thousands of campsites, hundreds of cabins, more than 500 miles of trails and convenient access to Virginia's major waterways.
