The course will be based in Galway, a vibrant European city with a rich heritage and numerous summer festivals and events (see http://www.galwaytourism.ie/pgalway-events-calendar.html). Galway is home to a large and growing creative community. From our base in Galway, you will elect to visit sites such as Connemara National Park, the Cliffs of Mohr, the Burren, the Aran Islands, and the city of Dublin. Outdoor activities include bicycling, beaches, surfing, climbing, sailing, kayaking and hiking. The schedule will allow time for individual as well as group travel.
Through a partnership between Virginia Tech and Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, students will study Irish culture and history as well as the creative process and the community. Hands-on projects and interactions with community groups will help students to understand the people and culture while developing creative skills. Course duration will be four to five weeks.
Housing in Galway will be in student apartments shared with other Virginia Tech students enrolled in the course.
