Clark Scholars
The A. James Clark Scholars Program at Virginia Tech provides unique learning experiences to exceptional in-state students majoring in engineering or building construction. There are currently 20 Clark Scholars at Virginia Tech.
Calhoun Scholars
The Calhoun Discovery Program is a new model of cross-cutting collaborative learning. It integrates Virginia Tech’s strengths in business, design, and technology within a societal service context, so that students can move beyond disciplinary boundaries in order to solve complex problems, and discover those which have yet to be unearthed.
During its first phase, the program will involve students across the colleges of engineering, architecture and urban studies, business, science, and humanities and social sciences. They will work in diverse teams to connect groundbreaking technologies with innovative societal perspectives and solutions.
Upward Bound
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
International
Although open to all students, the Business for International Students track is specifically designed as an option for international students in Summer Academy. English as a second language, cross-cultural experiences, and business terminology are addressed in this track. Students will also investigate the forces of business that operate in today’s society. After completing this track, students will have an understanding of the basic insights of business information systems, as well as security and software applications.
